101 Sandhill Crane with Colt

This adult Sandhill Crane is walking with her Colt. They are walking through high grasses looking for bugs or lizards or snakes for the adult to catch and feed to the Colt. They spend several months doing this. The Colts are able to walk and swim within about eight hours which is necessary for their safety. When you are this small, you have many predators in the wild.
