169 Bald Eagle

This Bald Eagle is a sub-adult bird. They take five years to develop the beautiful white head and tail. The first year their entire body is dark brown/black and their beak is black and their eyes are brown. At a year and a half, they will start getting some white feathers and some lighter coloring to their beak. By two and a half years, they are about as much white as they are brown and their eyes are starting to turn yellow. Each year, each molt, getting whiter and whiter and they beak and eyes getting yellower and yellower. Finally around at five years, they look like the adult Bald Eagle we all know and love. In the wild, the Bald Eagle a live between twenty and thirty years.
