This Barred Owl is watching her Owlets and the people on the trail. Owls have incredible hearing as they do most of their hunting at night. They can actually turn each feather of their facial disk to funnel the sound to their ear. Their ears are offset to help them determine distance and speed. Owls can fly completely silently due to the way their feathers are layered. Also, they can turn their head almost all the way around and this is because they can not move their eyes. Their eyes are fixed and they move their head and neck to see, almost everywhere.
