Baby Owls - Owlets - have to learn about their wings just as all birds do. They will start by stretching them, then flapping them, and jumping when flapping to learn about lift. Then they start running while flapping and before you know it, they are on a different branch. When branching occurs, the parents are close by as the babies will now start to separate and the parents suddenly have twice the work. Sometimes they fall to the ground and have to learn to use their wings to get lift to help them climb back up the tree, or a near by tree. They also learn to hide, blend in, and seemingly disappear at times. which is a huge help from predators. Soon they fledge and can fly from branch to branch and tree to tree. Mom and Dad continue to feed and teach them to hunt on their own so they can take the next steps in their wonderful life.
