148 Sandhill Crane with Colt

This shows the amazing size difference of adults and baby Sandhill Crane. The Colt is a few days old and will grow quickly to reach the same size as the adult. The adults stand close to four feet tall, and the Colt is barely the size of the parents head. Adult Sandhill Cranes are surprisingly light. The slightly larger male weighs about eight pounds, while the female weighs in closer to seven pounds, but really, they are made for flight.
