Like the other smaller wading birds (Tri-color Herons, Little Blue Herons, Roseate Spoonbills, etc.) that feed on small fish, Snowy Egrets can fly low over the water and grab a small fish as they go by. Sometimes they will stand in one place and wait for food to come to them, then they do the Snowy Shuffle to stir up sediment and invertebrates for a complete and balance diet.
