One of the many aquatic turtles that come onto land to lay their eggs, and then never see them again. This leads to a lot of predation and a lot of egg shells on the banks. The eggs are soft, so they do not crumble like a store bought egg. and they can be difficult for some animals to open. I have seen raccoons, squirrels, grackles, sandhill cranes, opossums, eating turtle eggs. I have also seen crows waiting by the hole the mother digs to drop her eggs into, pulling eggs out of the hole and eating them as she lays them. It’s a wonder we have any Florida Soft-Shell Turtles left.
