Along with being an apex predator, Great Blue Herons are excellent nest builders and child raisers. Great Blue Herons, like other herons and egrets build nests in tree tops, on tree branches or on similar snags. They are so good at nest building, their nests will withstand hurricane winds. When it is nesting time, they will freshen up the nest and continue to work on it until its time to leave it until next season.
